Catching up

Taking off!  Our first plane ride as a couple.
Hi all!  Life has been crazy since we got down to New Orleans, but we are finally catching up and found a chance to update our blog.  After this, I promise we'll be better!  This is Kaiti, by the way.  So here is a brief summary of the last couple months: Our wedding was exactly the perfect little beach wedding we were hoping for.  It was so small and intimate, and we loved having our whole newly expanded family in one place to celebrate our love.  We'll organize pictures soon, but in the mean time, check out our fabulous photographer's blog for a taste of our wedding!
We were so excited to move!  Believe it or not, it was actually our first plane ride together, and we were already married and moving across the country!  Once we got to New Orleans, we stayed in a way fancy hotel, Le Pavillon, while our house hunting began.  The picture below is the lobby.  It had the most beautiful flower arrangements and chandeliers!  I was in heaven.

These funny dogs are everywhere!  Kind of like the cow project in Portland.

House hunting, on the other hand, was not so fancy.  We sold both of our cars, so we had to travel all over the city on streetcar and on foot to visit potential homes.  After seeing many downright grungy apartments, we finally stumbled across a charming place over an insurance company.  It's right on Carrollton, which is a great neighborhood.  We are steps from the streetcar line, and just a couple blocks away from Oak Street, which has all sorts of restaurants, coffee shops, and little stores.  Monique and Robb helped us clean the place up and move in, and I don't know how we would have done it without them.  They were life savers!  We are SLOWLY getting the place put together.  It's not perfect, but it's ours, and once we have it all fixed up I think we'll be pretty happy here.  I'll post some pictures of it when I think it's ready!

The day I started school at Loyola, Tropical Storm Isaac got upgraded to a hurricane, a voluntary evacuation got issued, and school got canceled for the rest of the week.  So I had one class and then had to go home and prepare!  The hurricane itself wasn't all that bad, just rainy.  The real pain was having no power for almost a week.  It was probably 90 degrees in our house, with 100 percent humidity.  We started out playing a lot of yahtzee and having fun, but after a few days of heat, all we could do was stretch out and try not to get dehydrated.  It got pretty miserable, but now we can say we've survived a hurricane.

So I've started school for real now, and it's getting hard.  I'm working on two papers right now, and have several performances and competitions to prepare for, on top of regular classes and homework.  I'm so happy I didn't try to get a job, I don't think I would be able to keep up.  Clement is working at a grocery store for now, but is eagerly looking for something else.  If any of you out there have ideas or connections, don't be shy!  Send them our way!

All in all, life is pretty good down here.  We are making some nice new friends, eating good food, and exploring our new city with what little free time we have.

We have a couple's email address, if you ever want to email us together- it's KaitiClemTyler@gmail.com.  We also have a mailing address, just send us a note if you'd like it.  I don't want to post it on here.

We miss everyone at home, so please stay in touch!  I promise we'll be better about posting on this blog, now that we are starting to get settled in to our home and schedules.

Love love love,
Kaiti and Clement
